Titan A.E. is mostly known for bringing about the destruction and dissolvement of Fox Animation, and for being that last major project for Don Bluth. But there is so much more to this Animated Feature Film from 2000. Matt Damon actually stars as our hapless, yet reluctant hero, with a love interest played by Janeane Garofalo. This film is roughly fifty percent animated, and fifty percent CGI, and very clearly spent the majority of it’s $75 million dollar budget on the special effects. Was that money well spent? Well, that’s partly what we’re here to find out isn’t it? One of us has never seen this movie, and the other hasn’t seen it since it debuted. We also took the time to show this feature film to our youngest contributor once again to gauge her opinion. So, with all of that said, what did we think? Is there a greater lesson to be learned from the relationships that these characters forge? Take a listen to this week’s podcast and find out!
From Wikipedia:
In 3028 A.D., humanity has mastered deep space travel and interacted with several alien species. A human invention called “Project Titan” alarms the Drej, a pure energy-based alien species. As the Drej start to attack Earth, Professor Sam Tucker, the lead researcher for “Project Titan”, sends his son Cale on one of the evacuation ships with his alien friend Tek, while Tucker and other members of his team fly the Titan spacecraft into hyperspacejust as the Drej mother ship arrives and fires a directed-energy weapon into the planet that completely destroys Earth. While debris from the Earth also destroys the Moon. The surviving humans become nomads, generally ridiculed by other alien species.
